Sheltering and finding homes for rescue animals is very important at Deer Creek. Dr. Higgins is a founding member of the Valley of the Sun Giant Schnauzer Rescue, a 501C3, non-profit organization. The purpose of VSGSR is to rescue, treat, foster and place Giant Schnauzers and many other breeds. Deer Creek Animal Hospital provides discounted medical services and shelters these animals until they find forever homes. Many of them can be visited in person at Deer Creek!

Deer Creek and VSGSR is currently working with Desert Harbor Doberman Rescue. There are presently many nice Dobes available for adoption. Desert Harbor has been recently overwhelmed with Dobes in need. Desert Harbor is also in need of volunteers, foster homes, supplies, and financial assistance. Contact azdoberescue@gmail.com

The following are a list of current rescues awaiting adoption.

TERRI is a 7 year old, spayed, female Standard Poodle/Schnauzer mix.  She weighs about 50 lbs.  She is very calm, quiet, well behaved girl who gets along well with other dogs.  She is crate trained and house trained.  Terri was turned in by her sobbing owner as she lived in a 2nd floor apartment and the 1st floor neighbors complained about the noise of Terri running around.  Terri very friendly and loves attention and would make a loving addition for any family.  Terri is presently being fostered at Deer Creek.  Contact Valley of the Sun Giant Schnauzer Rescue for more information.

LEROY is a 1 ½ year old, white, neutered male Miniature Schnauzer. He was rescued from a Kansas puppy mill where he was used as a breeding dog.  He was to be killed as the mill was shutting down and disposing of all of their dogs.   He is a feisty boy, a good watch dog, and loves to chase birds.  He is healthy and gets along well with other dogs. He walks on a leash, is house trained, and knows how to use a doggy door.   He is very outgoing and has learned to enjoy human attention!  He needs a special home willing to be patient with him.  Leroy is being fostered Deer Creek.

EMMIT is a 1 ½ year old, , white, neutered male Miniature Schnauzer.  He was rescued from a Kansas puppy mill where he was used as a breeding dog.  He was to be killed as the mill was shutting down and disposing of all of their dogs.   Emmit has not been handled much by people and needs someone willing to gain his trust.  He has come a long way and starting to enjoy scratching and petting.  He particularly likes his butt scratched!  He walks on a leash, is house trained, and knows how to use a doggy door.   He will need a patient person to help him come out of his shell. Emmit is being fostered Deer Creek. Contact Valley of the Sun Giant Schnauzer Rescue for adoption information.

Vernon is a very happy, senior, Standard Schnauzer mix.  He weighs about 30lbs.  He is about 9 years old, but still has plenty of energy.  He very quite and well behaved indoors.  He is house trained and crate trained and gets along well with other dogs.  He is even learning to play a little.  He was dumped at the pound by his owners who had no more time for him. Vernon is healthy with normal bloodwork and has had his teeth recently cleaned.  He is looking for a quiet, loving home.  Vernon is presently in a foster home.  Contact Valley of the Sun Giant Schnauzer Rescue for more information.

GABBY - Hi, my name is Gabby and I was found as a stray by some nice people. They searched everywhere for my owners but no one stepped up to claim me, so now I am available for adoption! I have been checked out by a vet and I am healthy and happy. My teeth say I am about ten years old but I act much younger. I'm the perfect mix - old enough to know better but young enough to still have fun! I am exceptionally well-behaved, house-broken and love to play. I get along great with other dogs and am very people oriented. I am just as cute as a puppy and even more loyal.

I was obviously someone's pet at some point because I am sweet and loving. My favorite thing to do is curl up next to you while you pat my super soft fur. I am a very quiet little dog and weigh just about 20 pounds. I can't wait to find my forever home

ZEUS - is a 5 year old, neutered male,  blue Doberman.  Zeus is a happy, friendly boy who loves attention. He has plenty of personality and was taught to sit a few minutes. He is very active and loves walking and hiking.  Zeus, like most blue Dobermans, suffers from genetic hair loss.  Zeus is being fostered at Deer Creek.
