Sheltering and finding homes for rescue animals is very important at Deer Creek. Dr. Higgins is a founding member of the Valley of the Sun Giant Schnauzer Rescue, a 501C3, non-profit organization. The purpose of VSGSR is to rescue, treat, foster and place Giant Schnauzers and many other breeds. Deer Creek Animal Hospital provides discounted medical services and shelters these animals until they find forever homes. Many of them can be visited in person at Deer Creek!
Deer Creek and VSGSR is currently working with Desert Harbor Doberman Rescue. There are presently many nice Dobes available for adoption. Desert Harbor has been recently overwhelmed with Dobes in need. Desert Harbor is also in need of volunteers, foster homes, supplies, and financial assistance. Contact azdoberescue@gmail.com
The following are a list of current rescues awaiting adoption.

SUNNY is a one year old black neutered, male giant schnauzer with cropped ears and docked tail. He was turned in to Animal Care and Control in Las Vegas. He is a very active boy, healthy, happy boy and will need a home where he gets plenty of exercise. Sunny has good house manners, is good children and other dogs. His favorite activity is to running and playing. He will make a great jogging for hiking partner. Sunny loves to please and will be a great addition to any family. He has a fairly wirey coat and few furnishings which will require much less grooming then most black Giants. Sunny is a wonderful boy looking for a forever family. NICHOLAS was a stray turned into the Arizona Humane Society. He is about 8 years old and pepper and salt in color. He has natural ears and a docked tail. He does not appear to have been well cared for prior to his arrival at Deer Creek. He is being treated for a skin condition. His bloodwork has come back normal and appears health otherwise. He had one seizure shortly after arriving and is taking phenobarbitol and had no seizures since. He has been neutered and is available for adoption. He is happy and friendly and rides well. Nick is good with other dogs, but grumbles at dogs that are too rough. He would probably do best in a quiet home where he can be spoiled rotten and loved to pieces. He is definitely high on the cute scale. Nicholas is being fostered Deer Creek.

BAILEY is a 6-7 year old male pure bred standard schnauzer. His family was called back to the Midwest on an emergency and couldn't take Bailey with them. He was given to his long time groomer who agreed to try him or find a home for him. She has cats and quickly discovered Bailey does not get along with cats. He knows the command kennel and rides well in or out of the kennel. He was not walked much on a leash so he does need to work on his leash training. He is house broken, has good house manners, and gets along with female dogs. Bailey is a happy, handsome boy. He is a powerfully built little dog with many long years left.
Bailey had part of his lower jaw removed due to squamous cell carcinoma over 2 years ago. His blood work is normal and chest x-rays are clear at this time.

GIZELLE is a happy, healthy girl who loves everyone and everything she meets! Her favorite thing is to snuggle. So if you want a cuddler, Gizelle is an excellent choice. She is 6 years old and about the size of a standard schnauzer.
Gizelle was turned into the Humane Society by a relative of Giselle’s original owner. They could not afford to care for her. This poor baby was so badly matted; she had to be shaved down! Her beard and brows were shaved off as well. She is a bit overweight and will look much cuter when she is trim and grows her schnauzer beard and brows back. She is spayed.
For more information on adopting Gizelle visit www.vsgiantschnauzerrescue.org. Gizelle is being fostered Deer Creek. |
